Powers Of The Agents Of Change
Competency is an underlying characteristic of a person that
results in effective performance and / or higher ( Boyatzis , 1982 ) .
After going through various roles as change agents would
have been clear that they have to be owner of many competitions. It is
necessary to clarify that it is possible that a particular change agent to be
the master of all skills / competencies , that is why , change agents are also
involved other change agents / consultants . It is very difficult to make an
exhaustive list of skills Change agent - test roles are many. Competencies are
the knowledge, skills , attitudes , traits , values , motives, and it is
difficult to draw a line between the thesis. A skill is used for job
applications or to perform a task / fulfill a role , which is a result of a
series of visible and invisible powers . In general , the competence of change
agents can be classified into :
- Cognitive skills ;
- Functional Skills / Technical ;
- Personal Skills (Effectiveness) ( self , attitudes ,
traits , values, etc. ) , and
- Interpersonal skills .
In addition , ' Consulting' / Problem solving competition
consisting of all skills mentioned above is also essential for change agents .
Each of these competencies are briefly explained as follows :
1 Cognitive Skills :
Cognitive skills necessary for perceiving and thinking and
are again a combination of a number of skills. For a simple explanation , these
can be divided into two types of thinking :
• Analytical thinking and
• Conceptual thinking .
• Analytical thinking allows a person to understand a
situation by breaking it into smaller pieces , or tracing the implications of a
situation in a causal way step by step. It also involves the organization of
the parts of a problem or situation systematically , making systematic
comparisons of different features and characteristics , setting priorities on a
rational basis , identifying time sequences , causal relationships or " If
..... then ..... ........... " relationships.
• Conceptual thinking involves understanding a situation or
problem by putting the pieces together and see the big picture. Includes
identifying patterns or connections between situations that are not obviously
related , and to identify key or underlying issues in a complex situation .
Conceptual thinking uses creative reasoning , conceptual or inductive for the
application of existing concepts of defining new concepts. According to Spencer
and Spencer (1993 ) , there are two main dimensions of conceptual thought :
The complexity of the processes of
thought and originality - ranging from "the use of the basic rules of
thumb " to " the creation of new theories explaining complex
situations.
The extent or size of the problem
analyzed.
2 Skills Functional / Technical
These are the skills needed to perform effectively in a
given subject area , functional or technical , such as: - heat treatment ,
corrosion, investment analysis , design a system of wage and salary
administration , organizational development , Structural Design etc.
The change agent , who is working to identify and solve
problems , you must have the necessary knowledge and handle all problems and /
or solutions provider . Technical skills / professionals include mastery of a
body or field of knowledge and work-related skills and motivation to improve ,
use and disseminate knowledge / skills related to the work of others .
According to Spencer and Spencer , there are four main measures functional
skills / technical / professional :
i ) Knowledge and Skills Fund
ii ) The extent of the knowledge and skills
iii ) Experience Acquisition Motive
iv ) Distribution / Dissemination of knowledge
Change agents / consultants are dedicated to solving
problems , and all problems seem to arise in one or more of the functions /
departments / organizations processes . Functional knowledge / technique
provides insight to perceive globally and also very essential for interaction
and convince the customer . It adds to the confidence and credibility of the
change agent .
1. Personal (Effectiveness) / Self management skills
These skills help a person to be effective in achieving its
objectives , actions even amid difficulties and environmental pressures . For
effective change agents / consultants , the following personal management
skills / auto are pretty essential .

Two . interpersonal
These skills are essential to deal with others effectively .
Interpersonal skills are a lot of different skills largely overlap with others.
It is very difficult to clearly list all such slots.
